MICROCLIMATES
Between the Tepko and Black Heath Weather Stations (WNW @ 10.5 Kms), for every kilometre you travel towards Black Heath the BOM annual average rainfall increases by approximately 16mm per Km. Between the Rockleigh Weather Station and the Black Heath Weather Station that is NNW @ 6.6 Kms & (assuming an average annual rainfall of 350mm for Rockleigh), there is an average annual rainfall increase of approx. 26mm per Kilometre, demonstrating the very high variability in the surrounding microclimates and the dramatic effects location has on weather! This figure could be as high, or even higher than 31mm per Km, if we assumed an average annual rainfall for Rockleigh of 320mm.
The prominent Ranges, Due East of Harrogate and West of Black Heath Road is likely the primary contributer to the rapidly increasing rainfall as you travel towards the Black Heath Weather Station. This range, with elevations in excess of 400 Mtrs ASL W of Black Heath & nearly non existent W of Rockleigh is possibly the reason?
